Which models and model year vehicles can be reprogrammed?

Reprogramming of vehicle modules was phased in starting with 1999 model year.  Matrix is under revision.

What OEM equipment is needed to reprogram vehicles?

Volvo has made available a complete computer system to aid technicians in the repair of Volvo vehicles.  VIDA (Vehicle Information and Diagnostics for Aftersales) is a source for parts information, product specifications, fault tracing, diagnostic procedures and vehicle communication services.  Along with a subscription to VIDA, the technician will require an approved J2534 pass through device.

How does a technician obtain these tools?

Volvo diagnostic tools are available through the SPX Corporation.  Reference and click on the site links.  NOTE: tools cannot be ordered online.

VIDA subscriptions are also available through the website.

How does a technician determine whether a reprogramming event is needed for a particular vehicle?

To determine if reprogramming is needed, the technician must establish a connection to the vehicle via Volvo's OEM diagnostic equipment or an approved J2534 interface, then reference for applicable service information.

What J-2534 reprogramming capabilities are available?

2004 and newer vehicles are compatible with J2534 reprogramming.  Limited reprogramming capabilities for some older models.  Matrix under revision.
