Hello Mr. Kelley, I am contacting you because you are listed as the VW Training Information contact in the NASTF website OE information matrix. I've been involved in NASTF committees for its initial five years. I am an independent auto repair shop owner and ASE master technician in California and I am also very involved in service education for our industry. Currently, I am vice-chair for the "Service Technology Program Office" for the SAE-International SoCal Section Governing Board. We sponsor and present workshops for service technicians at Cerritos College Transportation Technology Center in Norwalk, California. The SAE Socal Section chairperson Anna Phillips and I would very much like to promote a short workshop presentation (2-3 hours) on the latest diesel passenger car powertrain technology, in light of the proposed "low sulfur" diesel fuel introduction in our state within the next year and the resultant re-introduction of diesel passenger vehicles into California. Having spent my first ten working years in the VW/Audi/Porsche dealer network during the 60's and 70's, I believe there would be no current manufacturer better qualified to address the topics of small displacement diesel engine turbocharging, direct injection as well as other fuel-saving, NVH damping and driveability technologies than Volkswagen. Please contact me and let me know if VWoA, through your southern California distributorship, would be interested in joining with SAE SoCAl Section and Cerritos College to make this possible. Time frame for the event could be anywhere between November 2006 and February 2007. Most of these events take place on a Saturday morning at Cerritos to allow working industry technicians time to attend. I can be reached anytime by email and 8-5 Mon-Fri PDT at my shop phone 909-627-0919. Thank you, and I sincerely appreciate your time to read our request. Jim O'Neill Chino Autotech

VW sincerely appreciates your invitation to participate in the SAE workshop to speak on diesel technology. As I explained during our phone call, regretfully, we are not able to meet the Nov-Jan timeframe that you proposed. However, after we introduce our new diesel vehicle for sale in California and have training materials available, then we would be happy to participate in a workshop with your SAE local section to present that concept and to talk about latest diesel passenger car powertrain technology. Sincerely, Volkswagen of America
