This is Honda’s formal response to the NASTF Feedback/Request form you filed 4/9/06, and a follow up to the phone call you received from Honda on 4/10/2006 regarding your questions. The summary of the conversation was as follows: While speaking to the tech he explained he liked the website but was a little confused about the HDS line of diagnostic tools. We answered his questions, and he now has a better understanding of the HDS tool situation. Below are the answers to the questions. 1. Is tool in stock? Yes, the stock of the Honda Interface Module (HIM) has just been replenished with 5 pieces. This is the same vehicle interface we’ve had available for several years. Its primary purpose initially was for ECU/PCM reprogramming, but it can be used as a pass-through device for our diagnostic software. 2. What years does it cover? Model years covered are 1992 to present (except 2006 Civics and 2007 Fit). The PC software is included as part of the Honda HDS software package. It is not sold separately. 3. CAN? The current HIM does not do CAN vehicles. The plan is to update these HIM units via a "CAN Daughterboard" upgrade. 4. When will 2006 be available? The updated HIM is due for release June/July 2006. This update will be shipped to Honda & Acura dealers automatically, and simultaneously released for sale to the aftermarket via Helm. Best Regards, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
