When purchasing a new control unit since 2013 Nissan & Infiniti are selling "Blank" control modules. You go to their website and plug in the part # of the "Blank" control unit and up pops about 56 software part numbers to choose from. You are instructed on their site to view the internal part # of the old control module to select the correct file you need from the list of 50+ files. This is not a hard task to perform... the problem I have is that the old ECM no longer communicates and I am unable to retrieve the part # from the old ECM. The Nissan website instructs you as a second option to contact the dealer who sold you the part so they can look the file up that you need by VIN in their electronic parts catalog. I spoke to the dealer and parts department referred me back to the service department. The service department then referred me back to the parts department who had no knowledge of the part # he was to give me. He told me that their service department would have to perform the task of reprograming because the part # was retrieved through their Assist program. So they sell a control module and i'm at a loss to program it with the same tool they use because I don't have access to the VIN specific file I need.

Nissan & Infiniti need to put a VIN File database on their website so we as aftermarket technicians don't have to be at the mercy of a Dealer that is unable to provide the file we need to perform a simple reprogramming job. THE MODULE WAS RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP AND I LOST THE JOB !!!!

To help you clarify which blank programming file to purchase from, please use the Infiniti parts website to look up the part # by VIN. Please enter Model Year/Model and click Go.
