With this issue, FCA found that VIN was working in Parts Key Code for Authorization PIN Generation. But, the tool used for programming may have caused the error message because it is not an approved device. For Key and PIN coding the FCA approved devices are the DRB III, DRB III Emulator or wiTECH. The approved tools for use on Key and PIN coding depends on the model year. Because this vehicle is a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, the wiTECH should be the correct system. Based on the MOU, FCA does not support the SAE J2534 standard for Key and PIN codes at this time, but will support the SAE J2534 standard starting with the model year 2018 vehicles.
