Description of Repair unable to perform
We are unable to program immobilzer module and keys to the vehicle during an instrument cluster replacement.
Description of Information not available
We are attempting to install an instrument cluster in the 09 VW GTI listed above. The VW factory software ODIS is supposed to be completely operable with the approved J-2534 interface. The vehicle is in the middle of programming the instrument cluster. During programming since the J-2534 device does not recognize key cycles they must be manually confirmed. During immobilizer and key programming the tool refuses to allow manual entry of key position. and keeps asking for the key to be turned on.
Description of steps taken to obtain information (help/contact function on website, websites, etc.)

Other Comments or Concerns
VW admits it is an issue with the tool and apparently VW has no workaround or even plans to fix it with the J-2534 interface. I was told to purchase the factory interface even though VW is supposed to be J-2534 compliant.

This issue is related to the current standard of J2534 version 4.04 with a VW application. The VW GTI requires checking for ignition voltage on a pin before programming. Typically a technician may be allowed to bypass this step on most models, but the GTI is the exception. VW Germany is aware of this issue and VW USA is waiting on a solution, but it may depend on a final release of J2534-2 version 5.00 before this issue is resolved. However, VW is currently working on resolving this issue, but this is going to take time before it is resolved. The only immediate solution is to reprogram with the OEM tool from VW.

The issue has been addressed with a diagnostic software update. The current VW software allows the SAE J2534 device to be used. The software eliminated the Key –on recognition. Now there is a key-on yes- no function incorporated in the software for all functions that require it.
