Description of Repair unable to perform
I have the above vehicle in my shop. It needs a new drivers door lock tumbler which is part of the drivers door handle assembly. My local dealer will not let me order this part. I have an LSID and am registered as a VSP. I have all documents needed.
Description of Information not available
Dealership is not willing to sell my outer door handle because it has a tumbler included in it.
Description of steps taken to obtain information (help/contact function on website, websites, etc.)
Contact dealership. Advised them we are a VSP professional and have an LSID. Provided all documentation needed in order to get parts however request was denied.
Other Comments or Concerns
The TRP policy contradicts itself. Under 3C it says "Other TRPs not listed in this section may be sold over the counter without prior authorization through the VSP Secure Data Release registry. The document process in Section 2D of this policy must be followed: the email notification authorization form would be the only document required in this case." When I go to 2D it says I need to provide them with an email authorization which can be obtained through This does not EXIST unless I am ordering the items listed on that website. This process makes no sense at all. I need a Tumbler because it is broken and does not work. This is not a KEY order and makes no sense. Please address as vehicle is still in my shop and customer is NOT willing to take vehicle to the dealership.

NASTF was able to work with MBUSA to help clarify the TRP policy so that this part could be purchased. According to the Mercedes Benz Theft Relevant Parts Policy, Section 3C, this particular part (door handle/tumbler) falls under the "other TRP parts not listed". This part should be able to be purchased over the counter without the special prior authorization through the VSP Secure Data Release Registry. All Independent Service Providers (ISP) should review the TRP policy information before attempting to order a part. The TRP policy can be found at under "Theft-Relevant Parts Info" tab. The policy lists which parts require special authorization and which parts will not. For future reference: If an ISP is not able to obtain a TRP after following the TRP policy, then advise us (i) which dealer, and (ii) to whom specifically did he deal with when ordering this part so that MBUSA can expedite this quicker.
