Description of Repair unable to perform
Latest MB TRP policy requires the vehicle to be brought to the dealership to verify operation of keys. I order keys for an Auction so having all vehicles brought to the dealership for this process that I can do is expensive and time consuming. I read the TRP and there is not a way to opt out of this. Since these keys are ready to go without programming I don't understand why it requires a service tech to verify operation. I do understand why this might be required for a retail customer. My local dealership is refusing to sell keys over the counter. We use the local dealer for all Mercedes repairs but logistically cannot transport all these vehicles that arrive to us without keys.
Description of Information not available
Why this policy would apply to an Auction or Independent Repair Shop and why there couldn't be a way to refuse this extra step which would involve having vehicles towed to the dealership.
Description of steps taken to obtain information (help/contact function on website, websites, etc.)
Obtained a copy of the MB TRP document.
Other Comments or Concerns
This effectively doubles the price of a key for repossessed Mercedes Vehicles. We always provide any paperwork required to the dealer when we order keys.
Skip Potter 5/14/15 - Mercedes policy does require vehicle to be in the presence of a franchise dealer tech either at the franchise location or paid to travel to the independent location. NASTF continues to work with MBUSA to change this onerous requirement.
