NASTF has invited the Heavy truck assemblers and component manufacturers to participate in the SIR process but none, so far, have officially accepted. However, some informal communications channels are open to us. This SIR allows NASTF to attempt to establish such a contact at Daimler Trucks (owner of Freightliner & Sterling Trucks).

With the recent addition of HD OEMs to NASTF participation, we were able to secure an answer on this old request from Daimler: Daimler has not produced a Sterling truck since 2005. The MOU addresses 2010 vehicles and later. This is for good reason. From a technical standpoint, the tool needed for legacy engine support uses a different system and requires different ID’s (not the SSO ID utilized by DiagnosticLink). This is the reason the line was drawn on model year to allow time to develop and create a support model w/o investment in going backward. This isn’t a request we can accommodate.
