Description of Repair unable to perform
unable to diagnose code P0721 output speed (revolution) sensor 1 system due to missing circuit information.
Description of Information not available
The output speed sensor circuits other than the signal circuit are missing from the repair information and wiring diagrams preventing diagnosis without disassembling the transmission to trace wires. The output speed sensor 1 has three wires - power, ground and signal. Only the signal wire is identified in the repair information.
Description of steps taken to obtain information (help/contact function on website, websites, etc.)
Contacted Kia through the contact us button on the website on Tuesday July 15, 2014. Carlos Siciaros responded back within the hour, checked for the information and then stated it would have to be provided by Kia in Korea. The information has not been provided as of yet, the customer is in a rental car at the shops expense and a lawsuit against the Kia dealer who misdiagnosed this issue as a bad transmission is looming on the Horizon. Time is of the essence.

The information provided by the OEM is what is available at this time for both dealers and independents based on Kia’s policy to not perform internal repairs of any kind to the transmission. If no speed signal is coming out of the transmission then the transmission would need replacement and not replacement of the sensor according to current Kia policy. USA support indicates that KIA Korea understands the need to adjust this policy for the aging vehicle fleet and is working on a solution but no release date is predicted.
