This is the same issue addressed in NASTF Track # 381. I pay over $7000/year to have access to Volvo software at a price somewhat higher than the dealer pays. To make this software bundle not available to independents is an example of an unfair business practice that this web site addresses. In theory the proposed Right to Repair legislation should not be needed. I am begining to wonder!

We find this to be very successful in resolving our customers concerns. Regarding your recent inquiry concerning the Volvo Service for Life Program, the Volvo Service for Life program is designed to enhance the customer experience and add value to the customer when having their vehicle serviced at a participating Volvo retailer. The program consists of four core elements. Volvo's replacement parts warranty is being doubled to two years on parts and labor when installed at a Volvo retailer. „h Volvo owners experiencing a Check Engine Light or other warning indicator will receive complimentary computer diagnostics at Volvo retailers. „h Owners will receive complimentary software updates to ensure their vehicles are brought up to the latest specifications. „h Volvo owners that have their car serviced at a retailer will periodically receive special offers including a savings on Volvo On Call, Volvo's roadside assistance program. These software products are not needed or intended to be used for the repair of the vehicle. It is simply meant to add value to the customer's experience when they choose to have their vehicle serviced at a Volvo retailer. It is further important to state that all software necessary for the repair of a vehicle is and will remain available to all VIDA users.
