Description of Repair unable to perform
Our shop purchased an refurbished PCM from Donley Ford. The purchased PCM had 4 codes and the previous vehicles milage in it's memory. I'm using the Bosch VCI for reflashing this PCM as we have reflashed PCM's before. The Software errased the data in the PMC in preparation for the reflash. When it actually starts the reflash it goes for about 5 to 10 seconds then we get this error: Error code: 11-ox72 851082 " Module is not accepting data sent by diagnostic tester" ECU failure A technician at the dealership told us that we had to bring it to them for reflashing which is not true because as of 2004 emissions programming was required to be available to the aftermarket. My question is, can you recommend a test procedure to verify that the refurbished PCM is in fact at fault. As a side note, this vehicle came to us from another shop for a no start condition. We found that the the old PCM was missing the 5v reference on E40. We condemned the PCM. The refurbished PCM does have the 5v Ref on E40. And when we first installed it the instrument cluster did read the PCM's mileage, so I know that it is communicating with the PCM. Your input is greatly appreciated

I contacted the ford technical web site to try to get information. Still waiting on a reply. I don't want to get stuck with a bad PCM from Ford.

OEM Response: We have confirmed that the error message you provided indicates a failure to obtain an expected response from the module. We have not been able to determine a test procedure, that would be able to help you determine if the PCM itself is faulty. We do want to investigate any potential issue with Ford Module Programming (FMP) itself. Do you have any further info that you may have encountered since submitting this inquiry that might help us determine if there is any FMP issue? Closed inquiry. Ford requested additional information from the complainant but did not receive a response.
