Key Codes NA because vehicle is older than 1998 AC Delco site contacted and site states that only vehicles 1998 and forward are available for key codes

It is not logical that older key codes are not available, especially since they can easily be obtained at a GM Dealer for vehicles as old as 1989.

GM personnel responded: Thank you for your inquiry regarding key codes for GM vehicles beyond the 1998 model year. GM is always happy to hear from professionals serving GM vehicle owners. As you may be aware, General Motors, along with other automobile manufactures, in partnership with the Automotive Service Association and the Associated Locksmiths of America, through the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF), have developed the NASTF Secure Data Release Model (SDRM) to provide key code and other security information to registered automotive security professionals while safeguarding the sensitive nature of the information. GM makes 24 Hour, 7 Day access to key code and other security information available for registered automotive security professionals through this process. GM continues this commitment today and we are enthused that we can make this process work with professionals such as yourself who assist drivers of GM vehicles with their service needs. GM has extended this program back to data for 1998 vehicles, but not further due to the accuracy and availability of older data. We appreciate your participation in the process. If you have further questions please feel free to contact me.

Update from GM personnel: I have had email and phone conversation with Mr. Freeman. Here is a recap of where we are so far, The current aftermarket key code look up goes back to the 1998 model year. The GM key code database contains model years older than 1998 as the request mentions. When the aftermarket key code site was developed a decision was made to only back 10 years to 1998 based on the accuracy and completeness of the data. The older model years also have a greater chance for the lock cylinders to have been changed and not match the electronic data. Based on Mr. Freeman's request we are evaluating the opening of the older information and will be making the information available.
