Description of Repair unable to perform
New Transmission Control Module - and code to make it work.
|Description of Information not available|
Description of steps taken to obtain information (help/contact function on website, websites, etc.)
Transmission control module failure--need new TCM from Dealer and will require code to make it work. Dealer will sell us the $1,300 part but not supply necessary code to make it work. We have the ability to code the new module but old module failure will not allow us to retrieve the code from the old unit. This code must be entered into the new unit. Dealer says they know what it is and will not provide information or provide details on how to obtain the code or Whether or not it is available on the OEM's website. This is restraint of trade.

In response to the feedback received from Mr. Maddox at Jims Auto, Volkswagen has investigated this concern. The vehicle identified by Mr. Maddox (1999 Passat 1.8L) does not require coding. The unit is ordered by VIN and should work upon installation. Volkswagen personnel communicated this information to Mr. Maddox and told him to call if he had any additional concerns
