Description of Repair unable to perform
PCM replacement. I can't replace PCM on 2000 Acura 3.2 TL. I own PGM tester, Teradyne Pocket Tester. It is really frustrating having all scan tools and still not be able do do relatively simple job. All this "security paranoia" is good for dealers only. Now I have to be a locksmith org member to replace PCM. Please explain to me why I don't need that for Ford, Chrysler GM or even Volkswagen?

Honda/Acura does provide a method to replace the PCM on all of our vehicles. An aftermarket technician would need to use the HIM tool or GNA600 (both are PC interface devices) along with a PCM vehicle specific code. The HIM tool can be rented from Helm and the code is administered through Helm as well. The process is described on the free side of ServiceExpress, under the "Tools Info" tab ( http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/RJAAI001_000.asp). Another option, but not necessary is, in January 2008, Honda/Acura enabled the sale of dealer tools with security features enabled to technicians that meet NASTF Vehicle Security Professional requirements.Technicians are not required to join the locksmith organization (presumably ALOA), ALOA simply administers the process. Honda places a high importance on our customers security, and that is one of the factors in how this program is currently administered.
