Description of Repair unable to perform
These questions are regarding Honda vehicle J2534 reprogramming software. We purchased a J2534 Honda subscription thru Helm & have received the software on CD (version #V2.1a). We have a new Vextronic flasher with there software, a new laptop with Windows XP pro (per Honda requirements). Also we have recently attended an aftermarket vehicle computer reprogramming class with certification. The class was weak on Honda info, but was great on overall info & what to look out for when doing a flash. Question 1) Where can we find Honda's installation instructions for a Honda vehicle computer flash ?? When we load the Honda CD, we can not find the procedures & have been unable to find this info off your web site. Is there a slide show or something ?? One file on Honda CD (at bottom) when opened states HONDA slide show ?? Question 2) How can we find out what file fits what vehicle besides TSB's. Is there a chart or log somewhere that states program number upgrade available for VIN or PCM number ?? Comment: We work on Toyota & Lexus vehicles also. We have the Toyota software & it is very user friendly. We are ready to reprogram Toyota vehicles now when necessary. The way the industry is going is if you have a drivability or emissions problem, you need to see if there is a computer program upgrade available for that vehicle before spending a lot of time on diagnosing. A flash may fix the problem. If you would like more information on how Toyota has set up there CD or download, please call me. Note 8/30/07: We have a customer with a 2006 Honda Accord 4 cylinder 5-spd manual trans (rare breed), that is complaining about an intermittent stalling problem when coasting to a stop or when coming to a stop. Also bad intermittent surge noticed with cold engine acceleration. No TSB's found as of today, no codes stored in PCM and was wondering if a computer update was availably for this vehicle ?? We were not going to charge this customer for a flash since vehicle is still under warranty. Customer has been to dealer, they could not find a problem & did not offer to reflash his computer. We would like to help if we can & learn at the same time. Rich Martin ASC Certified Master Technician Shop Owner Hunda Automotive (858)486-2403

Dear Mr. Upchurch, This is in response to your NASTF Service Information Feedback/Request. I hope the following information will answer your questions/concerns. Thank you. Response 1) The instructions are integrated in the software application. After the software is installed, launch the program and it will guide you step-by-step through the reprogramming process. If you are having problems with the software installation, please let us know. Question 2) How can we find out what file fits what vehicle besides TSB's. Is there a chart or log somewhere that states program number upgrade available for VIN or PCM number? Response 2) Since you already have the software, the easiest way is to connect to the vehicle, and the Honda J2534 software will automatically determine if a software update is available. Service bulletins are created in conjunction with software updates; software updates without associated bulletins are extremely rare for us. If there isn't a service bulletin addressing this issue, the software update is unlikely to correct the problem on Honda/Acura vehicles.
