Description of Repair unable to perform
We were requested by a customer to remove the factory installed alarm system from her car. To complete this repair, a software down load must be performed to remove a warning from the driver's information module
|Description of Information not available|
Description of steps taken to obtain information (help/contact function on website, websites, etc.)
The software was not listed on the menu at the Volvo site. We requested the download from Volvo, but they said they would not release software that reconfigured the car. I feel this is a stretch of terminology as the customer requested the alarm's removal to remedy a specific problem they were experiencing.

Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, through www.volvotechinfo.com, supplies all information needed to repair a Volvo vehicle. This includes access to repair and diagnostic information as well as software. It has always been Volvo's policy not to offer any software that will change the vehicle from its original configuration. This includes software for adding accessories and removing functionality such as an alarm. We are currently undergoing a review of our software sales policy. All subscribers will notified of any changes to this policy via www.volvotechinfo.com. As far as being able to remedy an alarm problem we do offer diagnostics and fault tracing through VIDA. If software is required to remedy a problem Volvo literature, such as VIDA diagnostics and repair information, will direct you to do so. Thank you for the opportunity to address your concerns. Sincerely, Service Operations Specialist Volvo Cars of North America, LLC
